Global Recycle Standard (GRS)-02 Resin Products
Global Recycle Standard (GRS)-02 Resin Products
In the Global Recycle Standard (GRS), the content of recycled material between 20% and 50% has different implications:
-
Below 20%: If the product contains less than 20% recycled fiber, it cannot be certified under GRS. This means that a minimum of 20% recycled fiber is required for a product to be considered compliant with GRS standards.
-
Between 20% and 50%: Products with recycled fiber content between 20% and 50% can still be certified under GRS. However, to be GRS certified, the product must contain at least 50% recycled fiber. Therefore, even though the recycled fiber content falls between 20% and 50%, the product must ensure that the recycled fiber content is above 50% to meet GRS standards.
In summary, GRS certification requires a minimum of 50% recycled fiber content in the product, with no certification available for content below 20%. Content falling between 20% and 50% recycled fiber is only partially compliant and must ensure it exceeds 50% to obtain GRS certification.
The Global Recycle Standard (GRS) can also be implemented in the production of resin-based products. Resin-based products, such as plastic items or composite materials, can incorporate recycled content to meet the GRS requirements.
To achieve GRS certification for resin-based products, the following steps can be taken:
-
Sourcing Recycled Resin: Manufacturers can source recycled resin from post-consumer or post-industrial sources to use in the production of resin-based products. The recycled resin should meet the GRS standards for recycled content.
-
Production Process: The manufacturing process should be designed to incorporate the recycled resin into the resin-based products effectively. This may involve blending the recycled resin with virgin resin or other additives to achieve the desired properties.
-
Quality Control: Quality control measures should be in place to ensure that the final products meet the required standards for recycled content and other GRS criteria.
-
Certification: Once the resin-based products meet the GRS requirements, manufacturers can apply for GRS certification. This involves providing documentation and evidence of compliance with the GRS standards.
By implementing the GRS in the production of resin-based products, manufacturers can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility by using recycled materials and contributing to the circular economy.
